FAQs

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Christian Counseling?
Christian Counseling is the process of taking a Christ-centered approach in helping a person to become fully developed in all aspects of life. This will not only include tools of the mental health profession, but most importantly, it will include the truths of the Bible. The Christian counselor measures all other concepts or ideas by the truths of Scripture.

It is important to understand that all counseling is values-based, and there are many values options available, such as secular, humanist, New Age, and the like. At Restoration Place Ministries, your counselor will represent a solely Christian perspective. This counseling approach will reflect this values perspective, such as prayer, biblical references and principles, and the spiritual disciplines. No organized religion or religious denomination will be promoted by your counselor or by RPM in general, but your counselor will work solely from a biblical worldview.

Does Restoration Place Ministries offer professional mental health services?
RPM is a professional counseling center with all staff comprised of credentialed mental health professionals.

Do I have to be a Christian to use your services?
RPM’s services are available to everyone. Although we are a Christ-centered organization and will work solely from a biblical worldview, our approach is to meet people wherever they are in all areas of life. No organized religious denomination will be imposed on a client by your counselor or by RPM in general, nor will anyone be denied service based on her religious beliefs.

Do you offer evening appointments?
Yes, there are options of evening appointments.

Do you take insurance or Medicaid?
We do not accept insurance or Medicaid. However, we will gladly provide you with a receipt for you to file with your insurance company.

What can I expect counseling to be like?
Counseling includes your active involvement as well as efforts to change your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. You will have to work both in and out of the counseling session to gain the insight needed to succeed. There are no instant, painless, or passive cures. There are no “magic pills.” Instead there will be homework assignments, exercises, writing journals, and perhaps other projects. Most likely, you will have to work on significant relationships and make long-term efforts. Sometimes change will be easy and swift, but more often it will be slow, deliberate, and intentional.

It is important for you to understand that there are both benefits and risks associated with counseling and therapy. Risks might include initially experiencing uncomfortable levels of feelings like sadness, guilt, anxiety, anger or frustration, or having difficulties with other people. Some changes may lead to what at first seems to be worsening circumstances or even losses. Our hope and prayer for you is that you will persevere through the pain and experience the liberating joy waiting for you on the other side of the process.

Can I be assured that all information shared in counseling will be kept confidential?
Information you share about yourself and your concerns is considered to be confidential and will not be shared with anyone outside this relationship without your written or recorded consent. Only in extreme circumstances would information be released. These circumstances in which confidentiality cannot be guaranteed, legally and/or ethically include: (1) when your counselor believes you intend to harm yourself or someone else; and (2) when your counselor believes a child or elderly person has been or will be abused or neglected. In rare circumstances, professional counselors can be ordered by a judge to release information. Otherwise, your counselor will not tell anyone anything about your treatment, diagnosis, history, or even that you are a client, without your full knowledge and a signed consent to release information form.
